Font - Fired over a Caesar Salad Long Like the title says: So I worked at an Italian restaurant for about 5 months. Initially the place was nice but as the weeks went on I realized they normalized passive aggressiveness and condescending behavior.
  • 03
Font - The main chef didn't like me after an incident of me being in the weeds and being new. He just stared at me and told me to ask for help. Mind you, the way he said it was insanely rude and he was borderline laughing. I responded with, ok, thanks, will do.

Font - For two weeks straight during pre shift, he would make comments like "if you don't ask for help, you will eventually get fired." "We don't tolerate people not asking for help because that will just make me want to fire you."
  • 05
Font - Then when I would ask for help or ask a question, he would have this stanky attitude. Example: "hey chef, for our main dish do you want us to get a temperature or are you preparing it at a default temp unless specified" his response "well I don't know about you but with any meat items you should always ask for the temperature, haven't you worked in a restaurant before?"

Font - Like bruh, I just need you to answer the question. If you can't even answer a question without being rude then why would I ask you for help? Plus I've worked in restaurants that will have a default temp like Wagyu being cooked medium rare to keep the flavor and juices unless specified. I don't know about y'all but the way it was handled made me not want to ask for help especially from him.

Font - The Caesar incident: Had a couple come in and order a Caesar salad dressing on the side. I forgot to put sauce on the side. Did the proper steps to fix the issue like ringing it in again the correct way, grabbed a manager and talked to the kitchen. This chef and the owner were talking and calling me stupid and demanding I pay for said salad.

Font - I had to pay for the salad and it sat in the fridge till the end of my shift. Before I left I took a look at the salad and it was soggy and wilted and I said to myself "eww this is soggy and f nasty" and tossed it. Apparently after I left, he stormed into the office demanding I get fired for my terrible attitude.

Font - Mind you, I've been in the industry for 10 years and have never been fired from a serving gig. So yea, I was fired over a Caesar salad because I made a comment that it was soggy and nasty.

Font - Note: I own up to all of my mistakes and actions, self accountability is something I value more than anything. I've never been fired nor have I never been written up at any of the restaurants I've worked at so it makes me think that he just didn't like me. I found another job within 3 hours of being fired so I feel like karma, the universe or something was on my side. So yea, a soggy Caesar salad is the reason for my first ever write up and termination.

Font - dmoney5101 15 hr. ago Sounds like they were looking for a reason to that chef fire you. and the owner. I've never worked at a place where they made you pay for ups. Especially just a salad. Costs like 5 bucks to the restaurant, if that. Place can go itself with that same Caesar salad. 151 Reply Share

Font - SwampGoddess95 OP. 12 hr. ago He defiantly just didn't like me, I kept it calm and professional but it took a lot of restraint to not say what I wanted to say which was: "ah so you get by your wife and have no control in your own home so you project it onto your staff in a means to gain control? Got it. Cowardly but I understand now."

Font - DashingDoggo. 14 hr. ago I could have swore I saw that making a server buy something is illegal on this sub before.

Font - Mylovekills 10 hr. ago Your first write-up, and you got fired?! What kind of place fires someone over their first write-up?! What kind of place writes-up someone who tosses a limp salad that they paid for?! Yeah, you're better off out of that terrible environment.

Font - Justwatchinitallgoby. 11 hr. ago Sounds like an awful place to work! Sometimes restaurant folks can just be toxic. Restaurant owners too. They are miserable in their lives and take it out on others. Sorry this happened.
